Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy

Clients come to therapy for longer periods to explore deeper concerns and to gain a more informed perspective on their difficulties.

The most common presenting problem is anxiety which can result from many causes but is actually a positive emotion in some ways since the anxiety is signalling to you that there are issues in your life which need to be addressed in a creative way and therefore enable you to continue your emotional and spiritual development.

The other most common presenting problem is depression which I also view as a signalling system telling you that issues need to be addressed. For whatever reason emotion is trapped and cannot express itself.

For some people medication provides relief but the fact that you are seeking therapy means that you do not feel that this is addressing the problem in a holistic manner.

Psychotherapy can be uncomfortable and some clients like to take a break and return later or may decide that this method of treament is not for them. This is entirely a matter for you.

Psychotherapy should be an exciting adventure- hopefully we can embark on this together.

Counselling

This is suitable for shorter term work and is more grounded in the present. This is akin to cognitive behaviour therapy where the client is looking for a more immediate solution to their problems. We would determine which approach would be better for you.
